Elizabeth Warren Posts Announcement Video for Senate Run

Elizabeth Warren officially announced her candidacy for Senate in Massachusetts on Wednesday morning in a short video posted to a new campaign website, www.elizabethwarren.com.

In the video, Ms. Warren, who was the driving force behind creation of a consumer protection agency in the federal government, said that she is running because “middle class families have been chipped at, hacked at, squeezed and hammered for a generation now, and I don’t think Washington gets it.”

Ms. Warren had hoped to head the agency that she helped create. But opposition from Republicans in Congress to her appointment made that politically difficult for President Obama, who chose someone else.
Now, Ms. Warren will attempt to take on Scott Brown, the Republican who won Edward M. Kennedy’s Senate seat in a special election after the veteran senator died in late 2009.

“Washington is rigged for big corporations,” Warren said in her video. “A big company, like GE, pays nothing in taxes, and we’re asking college students to take on even more debt to get an education? We’re telling seniors they may need to learn to live on less? It isn’t right, and it’s the reason I’m running.”
