Miss Earth 2011 beauty pageant venue changes at Manila, Philippines on 3rd December, 2011. It was originally scheduled to be held at the Impact, Muang Thong Thani, Bangkok, Thailand. However the pageant organizers decided to move the pageant back to the Philippines due to the Massive flooding in Thailand.
Roxanne said, she had been 'too scared' to pursue her pageant dreams until she contracted colitis, which saw her large bowel removed five years ago. I realized that life’s too short for that kind of attitude.
Roxanne said of her win, "My little sister was in the audience cheering me on and it is for her that winning Miss Earth means so much to me as we need to preserve the environment for the next generations to come, we don’t want them to have to grow up and not know what an elephant or tiger looks like, unless they look in a book or have no parks to play on and enjoy the greenery."
When asked what environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why, Roxanne Smith replied, "I want to reduce emissions around the world to protect the ozone layer; I don't think people realize the destruction being caused by these emissions. Protecting the forests, woods and wood lands is also very important to me, not only do they supply mother earth with what it needs to grow but the animals that live within that environment play a huge part keeping the forests healthy."
