Marelissa Him Betancourt: Miss Earth Panama 2011

Marelissa Him Betancourt was recently crowned Miss Earth Panama 2011 and is going to compete in the world-wide heats of the eco beauty contest, Miss Earth 2011 at Manila, Philippines on 3rd December, 2011. It was originally scheduled to be held at the Impact, Muang Thong Thani, Bangkok, Thailand. However the pageant organizers decided to move the pageant back to the Philippines due to the Massive flooding in Thailand.

Miss Earth is one of the biggest and most prestigious beauty events in the world with contestants from more than 100 countries set to take part in December. The winner of Miss Earth 2011 will be crowned in a live televised coronation with the overall winner becoming an ambassador to environmental schemes worldwide.

When asked what environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why, Miss Panama Marelissa replied, "I would like to initiate a project that raises awareness by training local leaders on sustainable forest management and sustainable agriculture."

When asked What is your environmental advocacy, Marelissa replied,"I advocate for education and raising awareness. I would love to be a part of a program that will pinpoint and educate local community leaders on how to protect the environment. Programs to be taught would be sustainable forest management and agriculture. I have a great concern for the food crisis and the welfare of the planet we live in. I truly believe education is the solution to the problem."
