Japan Air Force's F-15 Lost Fuel Tank During Mission

Reacting promptly Japan Air Force has grounded more than 200 F-15 fighter aircrafts after this unusual incident, BBC reports. It is the second time in three months that officials have suspended F-15 flights.

The plane was also landed safely though after the 155-kg (150lbs) tank, which was empty, and parts of a dummy missile came free and fell from the plane.

In July this year another F-15 fighter jet fell into the East China Sea. The pilot, though supposed killed, is still listed as missing and no cause of the accident has been disclosed yet.

The latest episode took place as Japan is looking forward to replace its aging F-15 fighter aircrafts. Two options are under consideration, US-designed aircraft and the Eurofighter Typhoon, and a deal worth more than $8bn is likely by the end of 2012.

Japan Jolted by 6.2-magnitude Earthquake on Wednesday Evening: USGS

TOKYO, Japan (August 18) – Eastern coast of Japan jolted by a strong earthquake reportedly on late Wednesday evening, but there were no reports of damage or fatalities.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) measured the intensity of earthquake as 6.2 on the Richter scale while Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported a 5.9-magnitude earthquake. It is estimated that about 3 million people in the region may have felt light shaking.

Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported the 5.9-magnitude earthquake was centred about 303 kilometers (188 miles) east of Iwaki, about 10 km (6 miles) deep and felt at 9.44 p.m. local time (1144 GMT).

Both Pacific Tsunami Warning Center and JMA haven’t issued any tsunami warning because there’s almost no possibility of tsunami with an earthquake below 7-magnitude.

Japan, which is on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, is still in improving phase from an massive 9-magnitude earthquake which struck off the coast of northeastern Japan on March 11, triggering a large tsunami. The earthquake and resulting tsunami left at least 15,698 people killed while 4,666 others remain missing and are feared dead.

VIDEO: Break-off Sulzberger Ice Shelf in Antarcica Due to Japan Tsunami in March 2011

Anyone one in the world could hardly imagine that recent tsunami in Japan would have any tearing effects in the continent of Antarctica; but it’s really true.

Before (left) and after (right) photos of the Sulzberger Ice Shelf illustrate the calving event associated with the Japan earthquake and resulting tsunami that occurred on March 11, 2011. The icebergs have just begun to separate in the left image.

Waves generated by the massive March 2011 undersea earthquake off Japan travelled 8000 mi. to chop 50 sq. mi. of ice off the Sulzberger Ice Shelf. NASA and ESA satellites captured imagery of the break. Ice may have been weakened by climate change.

According to NASA; the break-off of icebergs apparently occurred about 18 hours after the tsunami struck the Japanese coast and Kelly Brunt, a cryosphere specialist at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, and her colleagues, were able to relate the two occurrences directly.

6.7-magnitude Earthquake Rattles Japan on Thursday (June 23) Morning (Video Report)

6.7-magnitude Earthquake Rattles Japan on Thursday (June 23) Morning
HONSHU, Japan (June 23) - An earthquake of 6.7 magnitude shook northeast Japan on Thursday morning, the same area where the shattering 9.0 quake hit earlier this year, which also triggered a deadly tsunami that resulted into one of the worst nuclear disaster in the history.

The earthquake hit at 6:50am offshore from Honshu island about 325 miles northeast of Tokyo. There were no abrupt reports of injuries or damage in recent earthquake, which was 19.9 miles deep.

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for Iwate Prefecture immediately after the earthquake, but cancelled it just one hour later. The U.S. Pacific Tsunami warning centre said that it did not expect a Pacific-wide tsunami that would be destructive.

TEPCO (Tokyo Electric Power Company) fighting to control radiation leaks at its Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant due to damage in the March 11 disaster, said there was no impact from the earthquake on its efforts to bring the reactors under control.
