Iranian Activist, Peyman Aref, Released from Evin Prison after 74 Lashes for Insulting President: Samira Jamshidi

TEHRAN, IRAN (Oct. 09) – Iranian student activist was reportedly released after being lashed for 74 times on account of "insulting the Iranian president", media reports said.

According to details; Peyman Aref was lashed today (Sunday, Oct. 09) in presence of his interrogators and the chief of staff of Tehran's prosecutor before his release from Tehran's Evin prison. 

Aref spent almost 11 months in notorious Evin prison in Tehran. He was arrested last February and transferred to Ward 350 after spending several days in solitary confinement. 

Aref’s wife, Samira Jamshidi, said the lashing sentence was apparently related to a letter Aref wrote in which he criticized President Mahmud Ahmadinejad over the increasing pressure on universities. His psychological state is good but he feels unbearable pain in his back where he received lashes, she further told talking to Human Rights House of Iran.

Journalist and student activist, Peyman Aref, had been sentenced to one year in prison and 74 lashes. He was also sentenced to a lifetime ban from journalism and any membership in political parties.

Shaima Ghassaniya's Lashes Penalty Revoked by Saudi King Abdullah: Tweeted by Princess Amira Al Taweel

RIYADH - Saudi Arabia’s ruler King Abdullah has reportedly retracted a sentence of 10 lashes given to a Saudi woman for driving her car. Although no such official statement was issued from the government or royal court; but Al Arabiya TV channel has already confirmed the news.

First of all the news emerges from the tweet of Princess Amira Al Taweel, wife of the Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, stating:

“Thank God, the lashing of Shaima is cancelled. Thanks to our beloved King. I’m sure all Saudi women will be so happy, I know I am.”

A court in Jeddah sentenced Shaima Ghassaniya with a penalty of 10 lashes on Monday, only a day after King Abdullah announced the right to vote for Saudi women and run as candidates in local elections in 2015.

The sentence to Shaima Ghassaniya was slammed by a number of human and women rights groups worldwide, including Amnesty International, which said it demonstrated the “scale of discrimination against women in the kingdom.”

Saudi women have been protesting for the past several months against the ban on women driving in Saudi Arabia by taking to the wheel in increasing numbers. 

Women activist Manal al-Sharif even filmed herself driving and posted on Youtube. She was arrested but later on released from jail after promising not to take part further in campaigning for Saudi women to drive.

In Faisalabad ... Husband Tortured His Wife, Shaved Her Head and Locked Him for Many Days

FAISALABAD, Pakistan (Sept. 28) – A woman was physically abused by her husband, who not only shaved her head but also locked her in a room, in a village located in suburbs of Faisalabad.

According to details; Muhammad Hussain, resident of Chak No24-JB Abadi Lahori, used to torture her wife Shazia more than often on regular basis. Shazia tried to inform her parents about her husband’s inhumane attitude asking her neighbours to help her out.

Somebody informed Muhammad Hussain that his wife is trying to escape with the help of her parents. He became angry nd started beating Shazia in the presence of other people of the area. He also shaved her head and locked her in a room.

When Shazia’s father, Abdul Ghaffar Dogar, came to rescue his daughter; Muhammad Hussian also locked him in the room, reportedly not less than for two days until police was informed. Muhammad Hussain later on escaped the scene before police can take action against him. The neighbours released Shazia and her father from the locked room.

The case has been registered in Sahianwala Police Station against Muhammad Hussain and police has started searching for the culprit.

VIDEO: Crowd Angry Over Casey Anthony Released from Florida Jail on Sunday

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Police had to take action for the safety of Casey Anthony and her lawyer as she was set free from Florida jail on Sunday (July 17) morning. 

Casey Anthony, who was earlier declared innocence in the case of murdering her 2-year-old daughter Caylee, was set free after 12 days in jail. People were already furious as a result of the verdict in the Caylee murder case and Casey Anthony received threats from people across the U.S. who had followed the case with enthralled interest. 

A large mob with anti-Anthony sentiments was gathered outside the jail around midnight; therefore, police had already feared the safety of Casey Anthony.

Anthony, wearing a pink T-shirt with blue jeans, left the jail at 12:14 a.m. with her attorney, Jose Baez. She was given $537.68 in cash from her jail account and escorted outside by two sheriff's deputies armed with semi-automatic rifles. Neither Anthony nor Baez said anything to reporters and others gathered outside.

Khatoon Bibi, Mother of Three, Put Her Children on the Road with a 'For Sale' Tag

Think about the misery of a mother who has put her children on the road with a tag of ‘For Sale’. The story behind the scene is not new in the inflation-torn society of Pakistan. Many mothers like this have attempted suicides with all her children due to poverty and melancholy of life. Few of such mothers put their beloved children outside Edhi centre because they have no resources to even feed their children.

 The latest one came in light from Dulchike, a village in Sialkot district, when the 33-year-old Khatoon Bibi put her three children; Waqas, 9, his six-year-old brother Waqar and their three-year-old sister Amna, on sale outside Government Allama Iqbal Hospital.

According to Khatoon Bibi, she has no resources to feed her children and provide them other basic needs of life with her small earning as house-maid. Her husband Bilal is under treatment in the hospital for his drugs addiction and probably on taking the last breaths of his life.

She got married with Bilal 10 years ago; even that time Bilal was addicted and used to beat her every now and then, Khaoon Bibi further told with eyes full of tears.

Parents of Khatoon Bibi are already dead and brothers have no enough resources to take burden of further four members; while her in laws have already kicked her off with her children and she has no option other than to put her children on the road as ‘For Sale’.

Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CPWB) has come forward on the special instructions of Nasim Nasir Khwaja, a PML-N member of the Punjab Assembly, and took the children and her mother in the custody to provide them basic needs of life.

CPWB superviser Zafar Iqbal said that Khatoon and her children had been taken into protective custody and would be provided food, shelter and other facilities. Khatoon herself will be provided vocational training and a Rs3,500 monthly stipend at Darul Falah, according to the organisation’s superintendent.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (June 18) - One of the 39 female drivers reportedly has been arrested in Riyadh; who defied the ban on female driving in Kingdom on Friday by driving through the streets of capital city. The arrested female driver was later released by police.

According to details; the 39-year-old state employee Maha al-Qahtani was among those 29 drivers who came out on the roads to support the campaign to pull off the ban on female drivers.



 Qahtani, who drove for almost 35 minutes with her husband on the driving seat, said: “This is my basic right. It should not be a big deal. There is nothing wrong or illegal about driving.”

“The decision to ban driving proves how backward the regime is.” She further added.

Online activists had called on women to drive their cars Friday but not to demonstrate, amid fears of a crackdown in a country where protests are outlawed.

Activists say thousands joined online campaigns to allow women drivers, but few actually drove Friday, fearing reprisals.

Manal al-Sharif, a 32-year-old IT consultant who last month set up a Facebook campaign called women2drive, was arrested May 21.
